On July 31, Robert Folberg, M.D., was named founding dean for the new Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. Leaders also announced that philanthropic support for the school of medicine is approaching $25 million.

Dr. Folberg comes from the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago, where he served as chairman of the Pathology department.

The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine will open in 2010 with a charter class of 50 students. "This new medical school will help solve the predicted shortage of physicians in Michigan and attract renowned educators and researchers to the region," says Ananias Diokno, M.D., executive vice president and chief medical officer of Beaumont Hospitals. "Our vision is to lead innovation in patient-centered medical education and research."
